Actos (pioglitazone) is a prescription drug used in the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes. Approved in 1999, the drug has been on the market for over thirteen years, and at one time was considered a safe alternative to the drug Avandia (which was targeted for contributing to adverse cardiovascular events in users).

It appears that some recipients of the Stryker Rejuvenate or Stryker ABGII hip implant may have received a Product Experience Report or “PER” Letter from Stryker Orthopedics in response to either the patient, or the patient’s doctor, or even the patient’s treatment facility notifying Stryker of any issues with a specific implant.

Perhaps you are one of the many recipients of a Stryker Rejuvenate or ABGII hip implant who have experienced problems with the implant and are unsure what to do. The Stryker Rejuvenate and Stryker ABGII were both recalled this past July, 2012.

Metal on metal hips have been distributed in the United States for many years now, but recent information has revealed that many hip implant recipients may be mistaken as to what specific hip replacement device they were implanted with.

For many years now, metal on metal hips have been distributed and widely utilized throughout the world in multiple market places including the United States of America. In 2010, DePuy recalled its ASR model and most recently in 2012, Stryker has recalled its Rejuvenate and ABGII models.

Unlike its all-metal counterparts, the Stryker Rejuvenate has a much smaller metal surface area which can corrode and lead to metal ions being released into the body, however the eventual harmful effects of the Rejuvenate can be just as serious.

Many doctors as well as patients believed the Stryker Rejuvenate was a much safer alternative to the all-metal hip implants such as the DePuy Pinnacle or ASR. Metal-on-metal hip implants consist of a metal ball and acetabular cup.

The Stryker Rejuvenate hip implant was voluntarily recalled this past July following adverse reports and concerns with fretting and corrosion. Stryker had notified hospitals and physicians of the potential risks of the Rejuvenate in April.

Many recipients of the Stryker Rejuvenate hip implant have been dismayed to find they may have the same sort of serious health issues as recipients of metal-on-metal implants. The Rejuvenate was recalled in July of 2012 with Stryker stating there was the risk of fretting and corrosion at the neck juncture.

Unfortunately for many recipients of the Stryker Rejuvenate hip implant who are suffering chronic and severe pain, there is no way to stop this pain other than a risky and painful revision surgery. Although not all Stryker implant recipients will experience pain, those that do have likely suffered tissue necrosis resulting from corrosion or fretting of the device.
